electrical wholesalers london & kent edwardes.co.uk

Unhooking a busy wholesaler from the back-office system that was holding it back.

A complete rebuild on Lunar that decoupled Edwardes' website from the unreliable back-office connection costing them online orders.

the challenge01 / the challenge

What we walked into.

Edwardes had been trading online using a simple storefront provided by their back-office vendor. The website was slow and frequently went offline, because every page relied on a back-office system hosted on the office internet connection. The site was also showing its age on mobile, and the team knew they needed a step change to grow online.

the friction
  • 01Site went down whenever the office internet did
  • 02Every page hit the back-office system live
  • 03Mobile experience was visibly showing its age
  • 04Couldn't credibly market against the marketplaces
our approach02 / our approach

What we set out to build.

We separated the website from the back-office system entirely. Background processes keep prices and stock current within an acceptable window, and orders are transmitted back automatically so nothing is rekeyed. On top of that we redesigned the storefront from the ground up, with a modern mobile experience and machine learning search.

what we decided
  • 01.Decouple the website from the back-office entirely
  • 02.Background sync of prices, stock and orders
  • 03.Modern mobile-first redesign from the ground up
  • 04.Machine learning search across the catalogue
the outcome03 / the outcome

Where they ended up.

Edwardes' website is now substantially faster, materially more stable, and no longer dependent on an office internet connection to take an order. The team have a platform that supports the kind of marketing and growth they couldn't do before.

Decoupled architecture

Website performance no longer tied to the back-office connection.

02 / 04

Automated order and price sync

No manual rekeying, no missed updates.

03 / 04

Machine learning search

Helps customers find the right product across a deep wholesale catalogue.

04 / 04

Mobile-first redesign

A modern experience that matches how trade customers actually use the site.

in their own words, almost05 / pull quote
The site used to go down when the office internet did. Now it runs on its own, and the back-office stays in sync in the background.
